Prof. Tan Weihong was appointed as the Honored Professor of ECUST, April 7, 2017

    On April 7th, Prof. Tan Weihong (Academician of Chinese Academy of Science) was appointed as the Honored Professor of our university. Prof. Qian Feng (Vice-President of ECUST, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering), Prof. Tian He (Director of ECUST Academic Committee, Academician of Chinese Academy of Science), Prof. Wang Huifeng (Director of Personnel Division, ECUST), Prof. Zhu Weihong (Dean of School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering) also attended the ceremony. Prof. Zhu Weihong hosted the ceremony. After the introduction of Prof. Tan Weihong by Prof. Tian He, Prof. Qian Feng awarded Prof. Tan Weihong with the appointment letter of “Honored Professor of East China University of Science and Technology” as well as the University Badge.



          In the ceremony, Prof. Qian Feng welcomed and acknowledged the joining of Prof. Tan Weihong on behalf of ECUST. He stated that, the joining of Prof. Tan Weihong will further strengthen the cooperation between ECUST and Hunan University, help promote the scientific research development as well as the disciplinary construction of chemistry of our university. Prof. Tan Weihong was delighted with the significant progress of our university in recent years and indicated that he will fully support the development of chemistry and other disciplines of ECUST in the future. Prof. Tan also shared with us about the experience of leading students of Hunan University to do internships in ECUST when he was a young teacher.




          After the ceremony, Prof. Tan Weihong visited the Key Laboratory for Advanced Materials. Prof. Tian He made a detailed introduction of the construction, development of the Key Lab and the application for International Union Laboratory, and Joint Research Centre of Nobel Scientist. Furthermore, the academic mainstays of our school respectively reported their work to Prof. Tan and received one-on-one guidances from him. The reporter stated that they benefited a lot from valuable suggestions of Prof. Tan, while Prof. Tan was also encouraged by their recent research progress.



CV of Prof. Tan Weihong:

      Prof. Weihong Tan earned his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at the University of Michigan in 1993 after he earned his M. Sc. in Physical Chemistry from Chinese Academy of Sciences and B. Sc. in Chemistry from Hunan Normal University. In addition to his current position as the Director of the State Key Laboratory of Chemo/Biosensing and Chemometrics and Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Biology at Hunan University, he is also a University Distinguished Professor and a V.T. and Louis Jackson Professor at the University of Florida.

       Prof. Tan’s research is in the general area of Analytical Chemistry and Chemical Biology. He specializes in bioanalysis, molecular engineering and DNA nanotechnology as well as biosensors. He has published over 500 peer-reviewed scientific papers. According to Thomson Reuters, he was among the small, prestigious group of Highly Cited Researchers in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The total citations of his publications exceed 33000 with an H index of 100 (SCI Web of Science). He is currently an Associate Editor for ACS’s Journal of American Chemical Society and an Associate editor for Science Bulletin (China). He served as the Associate Editor for Analytical Chemistry (USA)., He is serveing as either editorial or advisory board member for many journals, including the Journal of American Chemical Society, ACS Nano, and Chemical Sciences. He has received over thirty awards and honors, including the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015, Academician of the World Academy of Sciences in Developing Countries in 2016, Second Class National Natural Science Award in China (2014), ACS Florida Achievement Award (2012), Elected Fellow of The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) (2005), Pittsburgh Conference Achievement Award for Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy (2004) and Beckman Young Investigator Award (1997) etc.
