April 21th, Prof. Fang Weihai (Academician of Chinese Academy of Science), was appointed as the Honored Professor of ECUST. The ceremony was presided by Prof. Tian He(Academician of CAS). Prof. Yang Xianjin (Party Secretary of ECUST), Prof. Tian He(Dean of School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering), Prof. Tang Yanhui (Secretary of School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering) also attended the ceremony. After the introduction of Prof. Fang Weihai, Prof. Yang Xianjin awarded Prof. Fang Weihai with the appointment letter of “Honored Professor of East China University of Science and Technology” as well as the University Badge.
In the ceremony, Prof. Yang welcomed and acknowledged the joining of Prof. Fang Weihai on behalf of ECUST. He stated that, the joining of Prof. Fang will further strengthen the cooperation between ECUST and Beijing Normal University, help promote the scientific research development as well as the disciplinary construction of chemistry of our university. Prof. Fang was delighted with the significant progress of our university in recent years and indicated that he will fully support the development of chemistry and other disciplines of ECUST in the future.
After the ceremony, Prof. Fang attended the 116th "Famous Teacher Forum" and delivered a seminar report titled "Simulation of non-adiabatic dynamics of the folding and unfolding of the light triggered polypeptide". First he introduced the work of his research group. His group was focus on simulating by means of the photo-responsive azobenzene dye to induce DNA and protein conformation change process, etc. After the lecture, Prof. Fang patiently answered the questions raised by presented teachers and students.
Prof. Fang also visited the Key Laboratory for Advanced Materials. Prof. Tian He made a detailed introduction of the construction, development and the proposal of application for State Key Laboratory, and Prof. Fang gave some valuable suggestions on the sustainable development for the Key Laboratory. Meanwhile, Prof. Fang also had an in-depth exchange with the student who were making the experiment in the Key Laboratory.
At present, Prof. Fang Weihai is the director and one of the doctoral supervisors with the College of Chemistry, Beijing Normal University. Now he is the director of the Key Laboratory of Theoretical and Computational Photochemistry, the Ministry of Education(MOE).Meanwhile, he is also one of the directors for Chinese Chemical Society. Prof. Fang’s research interest focuses on the theoretical and computational simulation in light-induced chemical processes. So far, Prof. Fang has made a series of outstanding achievements in the relevant research fields. In the year of 2002, he was awarded the title of “Excellent Backbone Teacher in the Institutions of Higher Learning” by the MOE. In October, 2004, Prof. Fang was appointed one of the chief scientists of "973" project by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). In December, 2013, he was elected as the Academician of Chinese Academy of Science.
